This book was a lot of fun. I loved most of the characters. The aliens were really inventive. I especially loved the giant Gneiss rock aliens. I could definitely see this becoming a movie. Structurally, there were some flashbacks to give the reader background on new characters that disrupted what would have otherwise been a fast plot. It didn't bother me but I can see why some people dislike the number of characters introduced midbook. All the characters were very distinct and fully developed so it didn't bother me. I do wonder if there could have been a better structure though because on audio, I sometimes didn't realize we had gone into a flashback. In general, the book was a lot of fun and the ending really paid off in regards to why Mallory was always around murders. It's not Douglas Adams but that is a helluva high bar. I'm totally happy with it just being a similar vibe. It made my very shitty week better. I looked forward to listening every day and that alone makes it 4 stars for me. I'd love to read a sequel.
