Perhaps the most genuine depiction of siblings I’ve read in literature in some time. Robinson is a master of creating details that accommodate the atmosphere and delivery of lines that surprised me and came off as profound. Some examples include when Jack asks Glory if she would save his soul, or Jack crying as Glory gives him a haircut and he bluntly says “I’m so tired of myself.” Nothing comes off as melodrama. Rather, there is sincerity in Glory and Jack attempting to resolve their lives while in Gilead and rekindling their relationship along the way.
