The Disappearances
by Emily Bain Murphy
4.5 stars!
The concept behind the book is really unique: every 7 years, something disappears in this small town like the stars, reflections, dreams. No one knows why but they blame the main character's mother for it. It's also set during World War 2 though it doesn't really read like historical fiction.
The pacing was good and the alternating POV wasn't disruptive to the process of reading the plot. Investigating why the disappearances happen was interesting and it was truly a unique story to read. The romance was done well too and it wasn't at the forefront of the book which was nice. The only critique is that the ending seemed a bit too clean. The solution to their problems was too much of a right fit with no loose ends to tie up. The disappearances are simply gone and life goes back to normal. I found this a little unrealistic but overall, the plot was really good and fascinating enough to keep the reader's attention in the peaks and valleys. Excited to see the author's future works!
