This was a wonderful fairytale that exceeded my expectations. It was dark with a villain worthy of villainy, morally grey characters you’ll fall in love with (doing what they can to redeem themselves, and wonderful lead characters. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did! It classified as a retelling, but I feel that that’s a little incorrect. The author mentions that she took some key elements from the princess and the pea, but they couldn’t be more vague; prince wants a princess, princess appears to not be a princess, and princess needs to prove herself a true princess... see, a vague likeness. However, any fairytale connoisseurs will see elements from several fairytales hidden (or not so hidden) within the tale. It’s was a great read.
