The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

4.0

L2 English major university reading
gosh, where to start.. - i loved and hated reading this.
It's well written for sure, and the story is amazing but damn Henry and Dorian are irritable.
The way they express things in a beautiful way but often are mean, toward women for exemple.
I love the image of the painting representing his inner self becoming ugly from his actions and behaviours while he stays young and handsome on the outside - plus him hating what he is seeing in front of his eyes turning him even madder.
-Their "beauty" are exchange, while he should grow old and ugly - the painting actually is.
-The painting is presenting the way his soul is, ugly.
The fact that stabbing the ugly version of himself kills him; he lost a battle against himself.
I loved the ending. Oscar Wilde is a genius for that.
Basil, we love you :]

“You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit.”

> currently reading: !spoilers!
I hate how good Henry has his way with words. At the same time, he says very interesting things but also bullshit which annoys me to a point.
Damn Dorian gets influenced and dragged by Henry way to easily...
Basil is sweet, full of passion for art and his devotion for Dorian.

Shall we talk about how fast he recovered from her being gone ? hello ?
this man has an obsession with himself, that painting too..
