Wings of Shadow by Nicki Pau Preto
3.5

As with the rest of the books in this series, there is just something about Pau Preto's writing that really keeps me engaged. She excels in creating relationships between characters and world building that really sticks with her readers. I haven't read this series in a couple of years, but it was really easy to fall right back into it because all of those elements were so developed in the previous books. That being said however, despite enjoying both the extensive world building and character development, I think this specific instalment fails in the amount of perspectives we get. Granted, some things happened within those perspectives, but it was really few and far between that I don't feel as though it REALLY added anything to the plot. It just made the novel feel a tad more slow paced than I would have liked and could have been cut - not affecting the overall story at all (like seriously, all we needed was Veronkya, Avalkyra and Tristan's POVs (even though I loved the other characters too!!)). Overall, the ending was pretty thrilling and made sense for where the characters ended up and I definitely would be opened to reading more from Nicki Pau Preto!
