Unsheltered
by Barbara Kingsolver
I have enjoyed some Barbara Kingsolver books.
The premise for this book is clever . . . two families living in the same disintegrating house in Vineland, New Jersey, in different centuries. The chapters alternate, as their stories build to a dramatic intersection and conclusion. Well and good.
But the metaphor is heavy with this one. And just in case you did not understand that the book is really about CLIMATE CHANGE AND TRUMP AND THE WORLD IS GOING TO SHIT, she pretty much hits you (NO, BANGS YOU) over the head with it, repeatedly, BANG BANG BANG, in the final third of the book. And louder, again, for the people in the cheap seats.
And it wasn't even redeemed by believable or interesting characters.
Come on. You're capable of much better. Fingers crossed this was cathartic, and we can return to regular programming.
