The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop by Fannie Flagg

5.0

The Wonderboy of Whistle Stop, the sequel to Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, by Frannie Flagg. It was just as precious as the first. Oh my gosh.

So, our main characters here are Buddy Jr. AKA Stump and his daughter Ruthie, but they do follow around some of our favorite faces. We get to see old Idgy living with her brother Julien in Florida selling fruit and Honey and basically being a rad old lady. Dot Weams still does her monthly newsletters into old age with everyone who left Whistle Stop, which is no more at this point. We get to follow Evelyn Couch's journey of success after her beautiful friendship with Ninny Threadgood. We even get to meet a ton of the current generation of kids coming down from the OG Whistle Stop crew.

Honestly, Fried Green Tomatoes was beautiful and didn't need a sequel but I'm so happy with the cute that is Wonderboy that I'm happy she wrote one. Also I'm sentimental and I love seeing what else happens to familiar characters. Thank you to the Libby app for the audiobook! Narrated by the author herself.
