One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

4.5

• sentient forest
• forbidden magic
• dagger-to-throat, enemies-to-lovers romance

I mean, come on??

From the first lines I was sure I was going to love this. The dark, moody atmosphere, the forest-centered world building, and the monsters lurking in the shadows all made for such an immersive read.

The pacing is excellent, the cast of characters had me immediately invested, the romance subplot is satisfying, and the ENDING!! The ending ripped my heart out. I have the sequel release marked on my calendar.

At times the writing wasn’t my favorite stylistically, and I wished there was just a little bit more depth to the main character, but overall this was an excellent read.
