Cress by Marissa Meyer

5.0

Meyer has done it again in her new installment to the Lunar Chronicles!

Back-Story: I, of course, have read the first two books in this series called "Cinder" and "Scarlet." I loved "Cinder" and liked "Scarlet" quite a bit although "Cinder" was and has remained my favorite in this series so far.

As in the first two books, Meyer has the first five chapters of this third installment available for free on Nook.

Review: Where do I even start? I'm not even sure.

Looks- The cover is beautiful just like the previous two in this series. I love that it's clearly a retelling of "Rapunzel" as shown by the cover. I also like that they've maintained the same royal blue background for all three books instead of changing it up like some authors do.

Content- Oh. My. Gosh. I loved this book. Not as much as I loved "Cinder" but I liked this book much more than I liked "Scarlet."

Once again, the book is divided up into sections, with each section having a quote from the original fairytale in the very beginning, giving a glimpse as to what would happen in the section to come. I absolutely love these little details that Meyer does with the quotes because I'm a sucker for quaint, cute little details, especially involving fairytales.

Meyer follows up with yet another well-written, interesting, diverse book in her Lunar Chronicles series. This time, we meet Cress, a futuristic version of "Rapunzel." I absolutely adored Cress. She is an extremely likeable character and someone I definitely related to in many different ways. I also loved seeing more of the character of Thorne. Thorne was one of my favorite parts of "Scarlet" and his character is revealed even more in this third book of the series. Cress and Thorne belong together. The end. I also enjoyed the small glimpse we got of the character of Winter. It was such a small part of the book but she instantly captivated me and so far I love her, and can't wait to see what will come of the book titled with her name.

As with the previous two, the plot is well-written and never drags or is boring. Meyer maintained a good balance with jumping between the different events of all of the characters, especially with all of the separations between them. I loved seeing Prince Kai and his struggles between doing what's best for his country and his confusion with his feelings for Cinder. I can't wait to see what happens in the last book! I wish there were even more to come!

Lastly, as was with the previous books, this book is an extremely clean read without any language and just a bit of guy-girl action of kissing.

Likes: Cress. Thorne. Cinder. Kai. Iko. Winter. Good balance of the plot. Clean read. Pretty much everything.

Dislikes: Nothing. But I really wish there was more of Cress and Thorne because I love them so much. I can't wait to see what comes in the last book.

Overall:
Recommend? YES!
Reading the Next Book? YES!!
