The Sweetness of Water
by Nathan Harris
An interesting story -- I can see a movie adaptation very clearly. It has a lot of gripping plot points (e.g. gay sex, murder, prison escape).
I just felt that the characters often seemed a bit thin to me and drew fairly heavily on stereotypes (of small town sheriffs, plantation owners, society ladies, ...).
