Immediate observation: this book is really gory and graphic, particularly for a YA novel. If that’s not your thing, stay away.
Anyway, for you strong stomached readers, this book was a pleasant surprise for me. I got it free from a library giveaway, and it sat on my shelf collecting dust for a while- horror isn't usually my thing. But when I did finally pick it up, oh lordy.
It got right into the gore, but surprisingly, I found myself unable to put it down! I found myself completely enthralled by the intriguing characters and plot (and pretty spooked by the monster species so cleverly crafted by the author).
Seriously though. The thought of the monster kept me up at night. I first read this in middle school and was pretty easily scared, but STILL. This is the best book I've read in a looooong time. It's definitely going on my favorites list!
