Illuminae by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman
5.0

LET ME TELL YOU A THING, INTERNET.  It's about how much I love this book.

This is probably one of my favorite books of all time.  OF ALL TIME.  [/Kanye]

But this is more than just a book.  This is a work of art.  I've never seen a book so beautiful.

There is no reason I should have bought this book.  It's super sci-fi, it's about outer space and space ships and wormholes and all kinds of things that my brain just cannot comprehend.  I've never been into the futuristic space travel kind of thing.  Up until earlier this year I had never seen Star Wars, I can't get into Star Trek or Stargate.  Space is cool but it's just not my thing.

But this book though.  This is the exception.

Illuminae takes place in the year 2575.  Kady lives on an ice planet called Kerenza where there is a mining operation going on. The day after she breaks up with her boyfriend, Ezra, their planet is invaded by a rival mining company.  Everything is blown up, people are runing for their lives, and trying to get to a retreating fleet of ships.  Ezra ends up aboard the Alexander (a battle ship), Kady lands on the Hypatia (a science and research vessel), and Kady's mom is on the Copernicus.

The attacking ship, the Lincoln, destroys the wormhole generator on the Alexander and basically traps them where they are.  The nearest jump station, the Heimdall, is a six month trip away and our three ships are racing to get there before the Lincoln catches up and destroys them because of what they all witnessed on Kerenza.

Following?  I sure hope so.  I promise it's not as confusing in the book.
