I truly hated this book (and I read it for myself, not for school or anything like that). I found the plot to be very thin, really just a veil for the political essays the author wanted to write. Which is fine, but not what I'm interested in when I go to read a book. I want plot and interesting characters and I got barely any of either, just long political ramblings. Once the main character gets "caught", the story is over but 1/3 of the book remains. For me, the book could have ended there. English teachers across the world will disagree but this book wasn't for me. I think Animal Farm did a much better job of achieving the author's goals in writing about political content, but without the long essays and lack of plot displayed in 1984. I gave it half a star because the beginning was interesting.
