Some things that I loved about this book:
- GRIFFONS. Loved reading about them, crying over them, and just in general really wish we'd get a glimpse of them in-game someday.
- Strong female lead, without any romantic subplots, who is believable. Isseya is a protagonist that I desperately needed. It's refreshing to see a hero, who's not an OP Mary Sue, who can do no wrong.
- The Blight. It was really nice to read about the 4th darkspawn invasion and how brutal it was. Really makes the 5th Blight of Dragon Age: Origins seem like a fast-worward skirmish (and I love that game to pieces).

etc. etc.
The main problem for me were the jump-cuts in years and the contrast between tense diary bits and rather mild present time chapters. I believe that book could really benefit from being a bit longer.

Overall loved it. If you're a fan of Origins and everything Grey Warden, then grab this book and brew some tea, you're gonna have a good time.
