It took me awhile to understand what was happening. After I got the general plot, I really enjoyed the back and forth between Hiram’s life and the aftermath of his decision to fly to the sun.
I felt like Gay was using a lot of symbolism here for the Black experience in America. Not sure how true that is but since this was set in a future? Different dimension? It seemed like that was a possibility. I know his was an adaptation of her short story and I have not read that.
I enjoy Gay’s work. Not sure how many graphic novels will be made from her short stories but if I stumble upon either, I will not hesitate to read them :)
