A Curse of Blood & Stone
by K.A. Tucker
Some series might fall into the 2nd book filler, not this one!
We pick up right where book 1 left off- Romy and Zander on the run from his brother who has stolen his throne.
There's a lot of angst while the story progresses:
-Zander now knows Romy isn't Romeria but still feels pressure to not fall in love with her. He doesn't know how he can care for his kingdom and Romy since as Romeria his people will never trust her, but as Romy the Key Castor his people will always fear her. I do love that this particular angst didn't last too long, and the couple started to come together (yay!) only to be most likely have to separate next book (no!)
-The brother stealing the crown and passing some pretty horrific and, frankly stupid, laws around controlling humans and preventing them from poisoning their blood. fact is they need humans' blood, so whether they mistreat them to the point the humans poison themselves or the vampires elves kill the humans.. either option leads to no blood for the vampire elves. it's so stupid I wanted to scream.
-The fear around key castors, Romy has to start getting people on her side while also practicing her magic while fearing the very people she wants to help might fear her enough to just kill her and be done with it
-The prophecy that's driving the story; what is Malachi's plan? does it coincide with the nymphs' reactions to Romy? Will she end the blood curse but bring about a worse fate? ahh I wish I knew how many books were in this series cause I just want to know how it ends!
There's a lot of progress too:
-We see Zander give in and fall in love with Romy
-There's finally some justice for the mistreated humans and we really start to see Romy becoming the champion for humans and change. Her following keeps getting larger and larger!
-We see her start to take ownership of her magic and use it (I love powerful female characters!) & that ending? I love seeing Romy take her first steps into becoming the Queen she is. I can't wait to see how the brother takes the news!
