I raced through this. Lots of great, tense moments. Greer does a scary good job illustrating emotional abuse and the kind of convincing and justification that occurs within one’s own mind when you can’t make sense of your feelings towards someone. I hated Doug, instantly, but I felt sorry for him at times. And mostly very afraid for Annie. I almost wanted her to stay at the end out of fear that he might find her somehow. That and it seemed like he might have genuinely changed a bit. But the fundamental fact remained that Annie would not choose to live in total servitude of another once given the chance to be free
