Hannah's Night
by Komako Sakai
I was really drawn to this book and still can't work out why. I love Sakai's illustrations and how her use of paint and pastels create a dream-like quality to the pictures.
I would use it throughout the school because of the desire to explore the artist's style. Older children could reflect on what they do when the family is asleep.
I love the double-page spread of Hannah looking out the window and the visual balance of the rocking horse.
I'm intrigues by what is implied through the text - it could lead to an interesting discussion.
