This story is part time travel, part romance, part spy thriller, part historical fiction and somehow these all worked together really well! The narrator is a woman working for the British Ministry and her role is to act as a bridge, or guide, for the expat (time traveler) she has been assigned from 1847. I giggled a lot and I was so drawn to the inner workings of all the relationships in this book. There is a big twist near the end of the book that I loved as well. It took me some time to get into the story, but the end really had me hooked.
Moderate: Death, Sexual content, Antisemitism, Cannibalism, Murder, Colonisation
