Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic by Tom Holland

4.0

I think someone recommended reading about the fall of the Roman Republic as a history lesson to us in the USA about how we could lose our own democratic republic. There are some chilling parallels in public sentiment and leadership behavior that do serve as a warning.

As a non-historian, I will say that to me this book appeared to be well-researched, historically accurate, and free from obvious bias. I am glad I read it and recommend it to anyone interested in Roman history or who wants to learn how governments can fail from within.
