Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack

I found this to be such a lovely and heartwarming book!
While there are things left to be desired (e.g. a POC MC), I understand that the main draw of this book is the MC's sexuality and not necessarily the racial representation; I don't think that's a bad thing, per se, just something to improve upon in the near future! And I did notice/appreciate the variety of skin tones for the princesses and townspeople, on the cover and throughout. So already, this book is doing a lot of things right!
Plot-wise, I also really enjoyed it. The fact that it doesn't stray from the "fight the dragon and marry the prince[ss]" trope is a good thing, I would argue, because it provides a seamless transition from the typical heteronormative perspective to a more open and lgbtq+ friendly perspective. Kids are incredibly openminded. I have no doubt that they'll take the gay take on a classic fairytale in stride, and latch onto the themes of teamwork, love, and community. I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to share it with my friends & family that have kids!
