Memories of the Future
by Siri Hustvedt
I don't know why people keep telling me to read these books that have zero motivation, plot or reason for existing. I had no idea who this author was, but her writing just lacks depth. Jackie Kay and NK Jemisin are good examples of modern literature that will survive decades from now. For this random lady to compare herself to Cervantes and assume people will read this long after she's dead? I mean, this looks like a book my mom would read on a trip (she suffers from severe memory loss, so she can't read books where the information matters. Only stories with no real drive in them that have some nice words scattered about). I think the worst part of this book is that this supposed "feminist author" who daydreams about sex with women can't even use the word lesbian outside of a derogatory context. Philip Roth is more progressive and a better writer, and I hate him. Maybe I am just too gay for these WASPY American boomers who never bothered to learn about anyone but themselves.
