Vespertine
by Margaret Rogerson
Between this and Sorcery of Thorns, I liked this better, but it is very close.
I enjoyed Artemisia and the Revenant. Their conversations with each other were funny (I’m such a sucker for snarky dialogue) and though the Revenant and her started off distrusting each other, it was fun to see their relationship turn to trust. I enjoyed the other characters too, but the Revenant really sold me the whole way.
This book is very dialogue heavy and more “sneaking” around, but I think it makes a lot of sense given it’s about spirits and the Revenant that is tied to her.
Though there will be at least another book, I felt like this book could stand on its own until the very, VERY end. She wraps things up pretty well. It’s not a cliffhanger so much as Artemisia running off to her next adventure, which I will definitely look forward to.
