melonreads 's review for:
Midnight Valentine
by J.T. Geissinger
I can't remember the last time I stayed up until 2 a.m. because I was so immersed in a book.
This book.
Man, oh, man.
It.
Gutted.
Me.
Megan is a widow, having lost her husband, her first love, 5 years before the book starts to a horrible drunk driving accident. She relocates for a fresh start and also because she and her late husband had this plan to buy this big house in Seaside, Oregon and refurbish it and turn it into a B&B. When she arrives, she quickly meets the contractor her real estate agent suggested, a man named Theo Valentine, who happens to be selectively mute and has scars from a prior tragic event.
This book. I can't even put into words why I loved it so much. It doesn't make sense but yet, I believed this story, I believed these characters, I believed in their love. I do think this may not be a book everyone will appreciate and that's ok. There's themes of mental illness, of grieving the loss of a spouse, and the biggie, reincarnation. I fell for this book, for Megan and Theo, completely. 5 stars though I wish I could give it more.
