Alphonse is, everyone will agree, not very bright -- especially not about his own feelings. Pressured into marriage by his mother, he's very reluctant to leave his comfortable life with his exceptional valet. Particularly given, unbeknownst to him, he's rather in love with said valet. Luckily for him, his wife-to-be is looking for an arrangement that allows her to freedom to be with someone of her choice, and quite ready to accept him for what he is. Also quite eager for him to understand he's in love with his valet and deal with it.

This book is, in other words, pretty much pure fluff. Alphonse is pretty adorable, and a decent guy (despite rather questionable taste in schoolboy infatuations. Jacobi is very patient, very capable, and seems like he deserves his happy ever after -- though given his position as valet, we do see somewhat less of his internal life. The scenes between them are really cute, and I enjoy Aaliyah's character as well.

Not a lot of plot or substance here, just Alphonse finally figuring out his feelings (with a little help from Aaliyah) and getting his guy. And it's lovely.
