Unearthed by Meagan Spooner, Amie Kaufman
4.0

Fifty years ago, Earth received a broadcast from an alien race calling themselves the Undying, which led them to Gaia, a desert planet with temples that may hide technology that has the possibility to save an overcrowded Earth. Jules Addison is convinced that there's more to the promise of the temples than meets the eye. Amelia Radcliffe is just trying to grab as much alien tech as she can sell.

Unearthed is a fun, fast-paced scifi adventure with two well-developed main characters, excellent pacing, some thoughtful reflections on privilege, and a cliffhanger of an ending that's just evil. It's very much a book that I could easily see becoming a movie, with its sweetly burgeoning romance between Jules and Mia and Indiana Jones-esque series of challenges it throws in its protagonists' ways, but a movie that I would totally watch. Jules and Mia are both very believable and likable characters and there's some surprisingly considered reflection on how their backgrounds and experiences have shaped their beliefs. The action is engaging and well-written, the world-building is solid, and I'm extremely invested in seeing where the next book goes.
