Thron in Flammen: Roman
by Brian Staveley
A great fantasy book. I was doubting giving it 4 or 5 stars and settled for the later for two reasons: 1) the second book in the trilogy is clearly better than the first, and this is uncommon in this type of series and 2) The finale is extraordinary, again the part where many fantasy books fail and fall apart.
It is an epic fantasy book with a great focus on the politics of the Empire. I just love how the author develops grey caracters, not fully good nor fully bad, and how keeps moving the balance from one extreme to the other so you are always wonderign who is the bad guy here.
This book is very close to the level of the "Stormlight archives" series from Brandon Sanderson and Bren Week's "Lightbringer" series, my two favourite Fantasy writers right now.
To point a criticism, I find really anoying the repetitive use of the expression "Kent-Kissing" throughout the book. Based on the similar feedback I read from other readers, I believe the author would do better removing it from his future books.
I look forward to the third part.
