A murder mystery with an agenda, The Trees is fascinating and brilliantly written. Everett’s wit is as dry as a Churchill martini, and there are laugh out loud moments, but he also skewers racists, particularly those from Mississippi. If Hollywood were brave enough, this would make a great movie. But I doubt that will happen because it so smart, so haunting, and so profound.
