A Thousand Boy Kisses
by Tillie Cole
sad
medium-paced
A thousand boy kisses, more like a thousand reasons to DNF. I thought I had read bad books before. Clearly, I was wrong. Not only was the writing bad, but it was unrealistic, cringeworthy, and boring.
This book was weird as hell. This book had a relationship with 8-year-olds...
But that wasn't even the most unrealistic part. So many things were so bad I had to laugh. Rune was so unrealistic. Like, who, at 15 or even eight, thinks that they have met their soulmate and then completely stops talking to your entire family because your dad had to move for work? Like, that's embarrassing. This book was a waste of my time. If I wasn't stubborn and didn't think that I had to finish everything I started, I would've saved a lot of time and a lot of being disgusted. You know, that is the best word to describe this book: disgusting.
This was a weird book, with weird characters and a weird plot. I didn't feel attached to the character, so I didn't care what happened to them. To be honest, the person I cared about the most was Rune's dad because he was such a nice person and all his son did was treat him like shit. If I were ever a parent, I would've not dealt with that, but that's besides the point. Another thing that pissed me off was the fact that sometimes they would cuss and other times they would say things like "fricking.". This book seems like it was written by a 17-year-old.
Everything about this was a no. I will not read the next book about her sister, and I will not read anymore Tillie Cole. I have better books to be focusing my time on. And this overused "girlfriend has a terminal illness" genre with poor writing will not be any of my future books that I will read.
If you like this book, read The Fault in Our Stars. Also, read better books with better writing. Like, maybe pick up a modern classic; no offense though.
Also, another thing that I found really weird was that this book was low-key misogynistic. Like near the end of the book, she starts saying how the only reason she ever smiled was because of her boyfriend. Like, that's a little strange. Like, are you saying the only reason you're happy is because of a boy?
