Make Me Rain: Poems & Prose by Nikki Giovanni

Nikki Giovanni is one of my favorite Appalachian writers from Knoxville, Tennessee. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this collection of highly relatable, down to earth poems and short prose. One particularly moving poem, called "In Silence" beautifully describes her parents sitting in silence together on the porch after dinner without the need to speak, simply enjoying each other's company after having spent many years together. The title poem reads like a lovely prayer that is perfect for our times: "Make me rain/Let me be a part of this needed change."
