Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

This is so good I am considering buying it on paper and reading it again straight off the bat. It's definitely on the list on what to buy for my sister and her daugher. It's like a young adult version of "the shadow of the wind" - which is possibly one of the best novels I have read in the past 10 years.

My only problem with it is that I had it on audio and my mind kept wandering. It usually doesn't matter, but this is such a tightly woven tale that even minutes adrift can get you lost at sea.

It's a classic boy-meets-girl story, with the Spanish civil war and a touch of fantasy/SF/horror thrown into the mix. There are many stories intertwined, striving for a horrific culmination. It's brilliant. Read it. I will do so again.
