This book deserves absolutely every single glowing thing that has ever been said about it. I was immediately captured by the intention of Ekwuyasi's craft, by the voice of the book, by how the book had a voice but so too did each character, complex and vibrant and hurting. The creativity in the how of this storytelling is inspiring, and makes me so excited to see what may come next from Ekwuyasi! And the what of the story is so true, so intimate, so human in our most vulnerable selves: hungry, so hungry, so desperate. The way this book tells food is the best I've ever read, and the way hunger is hunger whether it's for food or for a lover's body is entirely delicious. This book enveloped me in a warm, queer, Nigerian hug as soon as I started reading, and it tucked me into bed with its final pages. I am so grateful for this story, for this book, and for the rest of Francesca Ekwuyasi's career.
