This is one of those fascinating literary fiction novels that, by nature of the plot subject, gets billed under the wrong genre (my read after this suffered the same treatment and I think has suffered in the reviews for it). Billed as a mystery or thriller, the more accurate description I've read is a "character study". Absolutely fascinating look into the ways social norms, heteronormativity, loneliness, devotion can all play out.
