In Praise of Shadows by Charles Moore, Jun'ichirō Tanizaki

9I'm glad I found this essay. For me it's a first time reading Junichiro and I will definitely return to read one of his novels. When writers write about non literature related things they make an approach rarely seen. I am a sucker for this kind of readings and as an example I can mention "what I talk about when I talk about running" from Murakami and "fútbol a sol y sombra" from Galeano. Now with that out of the way... The book per se is gorgeous, it deals with themes so valid to this date that if you tell me that this was written yesterday and not in 1933 you've probably would have made me hesitate. The struggle that the author was having in the early 20th century Japan when they were adopting the Western way of life, architecture, eating, arts and a large etc.. Is profoundly relatable. 5 stars.
