This is an old review and will be replaced with a new one once I type one up.

I read this book so long ago (probably 6 or 7 years ago) and read it before all of the hype that happened on Bookstagram and Booktube

For a long time after I was wanting to pick it up again, especially after they started the new series'.

I loved this book just as much when I read it again, and this may surprise people but I am actually someone who likes the movie, not as a book to movie adaptation but as a huge fan of Greek mythology I find myself watching the film over and over and finding new parts of the movie that I can enjoy

This review will contain spoilers for both the book and the movie so be prepared

Character wise, the book has more characters in it, especially more of the gods than the film. For example we do meet Ares and Hephaestus is mentioned. However Persephone does not appear in the book as she is said to be up on Olympus

It also has more of the creatures in it, such as Echidna and the Chimera (one of my favourite mythical creatures from Greek mythology), the furies appear more and Cerberus is shown

Some parts of the book were shown in less time than the film, such as the Lotus Casino, which they managed to leave willingly in the book. And the fight with Medusa which was over much quicker

I think that one of the biggest differences in the movie and the book is the fact that Percy doesn't know who his godly parent is in the book and is counted as undetermined which is how he becomes friends with Luke. This was one of the main things that bothered me when I watched the movie as I remembered it being such a big thing in the books

Overall I loved the first book just as much as when I read it all those years ago and I look forward to continuing on with the series
