Harrow The Ninth is one of the finest novels I've read in recent memory. Muir's second outing is a foreboding, slow-burn masterclass in anxious confusion that perches midway between soap opera, psychological thriller, and relentless Gothic horror, all while fleshing out a strikingly unsettling world that makes Gideon's glimpse of the setting seem paper-thin in comparison. Bewilderment and suspense are intricately layered as the story asks question after question, only for everything to fall into place with a nail-bitingly satisfying climax that still manages to open even more doors for the series going forward. A single read of Harrow is simply not enough to fully understand it. 5/5
