Der Wal und das Ende der Welt: Roman by John Ironmonger

i just don't know, man

i liked some parts of it, but others just felt incredibly superficial (especially the resolution and second half of the book), it was obnoxiously straight for reasons that added nothing to the story & while i think this is a story that should be told, it could have been told in a way more impactful and believable way. i saw glimpses of it at times, but the story and the level of drama and stakes of the story felt incredibly disjointed. it's weird to say "this book about a dystopian apocalypse could have done without it" but it really. could have done without the weirdly high apocalypic stakes. especially considering the fact that there isn't any resolution, the story is just. randomly over.
