The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
by C.S. Lewis
Re-reading childhood favourites is risky. I was prepared not to love this as much as I did thirty years ago, and have contemplated whether I should re-read it for quite some time.
Surprisingly, it wasn't the story that let me down.
Aslan is still just as magical. I remember sitting up straight in awe each time he entered the story when I was a child, and I still do.
However, the religious and political connotations of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe were lost on me thirty years ago. Now they're obvious. That let me down.
