Indigo Eyes
by Maeve Hazel
First of all I want to warn you that if you're thinking about reading this one, check the trigger warnings first. I didn't and it overwhelmed me. Maybe because I'm very sensible to the topic but yeah.
I chose to read this book because I saw it was small and I was waiting for my buddy read of ChOT. Then I paused it and I came back and finished within a day. I just went head first into it and only came to the surface when it ended. I fell absolutely in love with these characters. Indigo is one of the most relatable characters I've ever read and the way Maeve wrote her and her mental illness was perfectly realistic. I saw so much of myself in her and that made me feel for her on a whole other level. Elias is a book boyfriend that I will never forget. The way he shows so much patience, care and affection got me on my knees. He's so sweet and so caring that it warmed my heart. Olivia is your sunshine character and when it got to THAT point I was legit sobbing. Like I couldn't breathe.
Again, Maeve did the job so well and she wrote the plot in a way that breaks you but keeps you having hope. I would have liked to have a different story for Olivia and maybe I felt it needed a few more pages to approach the subject like it should have been dealt with. In a way I would have preferred if this was a bit longer so we could see more of the characters and their healing. It lacks a bit of depth on that part. But overall, and for a debut, Maeve did such a splendid job with this book.
