I just finished reading "Hold My Hand" by Durjoy Datta, the book started off as warm, I liked the conversations between Manasi and Deep, and her attraction towards Aman. Manasi was like Monica from FRIENDS,I wished to see her overcome her body image issues, the theme of body dysmorphia is not properly done, and fatshaming is frequent. I hated the middle of the book ngl. Although they were kissing and all, and she didn't want to kiss him because she had broken up with him, but he wanted to. It made Ahana look like a low self esteemed person to choose a guy who liked her for her external beauty. The more I reflect on it, the more I hated the characters, no offence, maybe I am just overthinking, but not my cup of tea..She was the one who invited him, she seduced that guy, and kicked him out of the room, it was extremely off. Ahana shouldn't have invited him at all, if she wanted to do all of that, gurl we know men better than that .Then, Deep is such a selfless coward. This girl literally doesn't respect herself, she makes being blind her entire personality, and when someone actually cares about her (Deep), she cannot take it anymore. Deep is so terrible bro, he agreed to go to Disneyland after she insulted him, like what the hell. Deep was completely in love with Ahana from the second he met her, and the ending was cute too. But, I didn't enjoy the stereotyping of "shopping is a manly activity", who says that? I didn't like it one bit. I hoped it would have some inclusity? The places in Hong Kong were also very poorly written I guess. I didn't feel like I wanted to see Hong Kong at all after reading it. I didn't understand wherever they went, but as long as you are able to see the story about only a girl and a boy, yes great! Unnecessary use of difficult words. It could have been better is what I am saying. And the only two compliments Aveek could give Ahana was "you look beautiful" and " your boobs are soft", hmmm okay. It made Ahana look like a low self esteemed person to choose a guy who liked her for her external beauty. The more I reflect on it, the more I hated the characters, no offence, maybe I am just overthinking, but not my cup of tea. Everything about this book screams " Men".
