They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

3.0

I put off reading this for a really long time because I was nervous that it would be super sad and I would be in a really bad funk afterwards. I had heard so many readers talk about how emotional this story was, but I'm not finding myself having the same reaction. Maybe it was too hyped up to be sad? I just feel like I didn't fully connect with the characters. My 14 year old daughter just read it and really loved it. I showed her I was listening and she asked who my favorite character was and I had to think. I do really like Lydia and Mateo. She asked who my least favorite was and I said Amy. Idk though. I just looked back at the History Is All You Left Me review and I thought I rated it higher than 3 stars but it seems like I had the same issue there. I liked the writing and don't find any fault there, but I don't feel like I'm connecting or caring about these characters and that's a bummer.
