The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

5.0

This book is great because I seriously didn't have a clue what was going on for most of the book. What's real? Was that a hallucination? What are those flashbacks? The questions I had at times were overwhelming, but it all focused on Mara as a narrator.

Mostly, I found myself not really believing everything Mara narrated, so most moments I was trying to figure out what was real and what was in her head. This doubt cast an interesting light on the story as a whole because I started to doubt Noah as well even though he doesn't ever really do anything to elicit that doubt. Having Mara doubt herself while her life seems to be in danger creates a mysterious, creepy thriller.

And the end? Well that guaranteed I would read book 3 when it comes out in the fall. This is a well-written, frightening, and exciting series that I recommend.
