This book absolutely blew me away. It delivered everything I wanted to love about Babel by R.F. Kuang and more.

At its core, this story explores what it truly means to be a good person in a world build on injustice. It asks the question are your intentions enough or does your impact matter more.

This story follows two main characters Sciona and Thomil. Sciona is flawed, fiercely intelligent, and yet deeply compelling. Watching her grapple with her ever-shifting reality while trying to make the “good” choices was profoundly satisfying. Thomil is grappling with his new life in the city after watching his tribe be slaughtered by the blight as they tried to flee to saftey. Thomil faces relentless racism as he struggles to live his new life, raise his niece, and hold onto his the last threads of his culture. M.L. Wang has a gift for creating characters who breathe life into the page.

This book tackles complex topics such as sexism, classism, and assimilation with brutal honesty. Leaving a lasting impact that challenges, devastates, and inspires all at once.
