Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

5.0

For me, an absolute MUST in a book is unpredictability. If I know what’s going to happen, why would I bother reading 2-600 pages on it? This book did not disappoint in that way, or in any other for that matter.

Fingersmith is probably one of the most original books I have read. This was the first book I’ve read written in the kind of old english style (apart from Jane Eyre) and it did take me a while to get through it but it was COMPLETELY worth it.

The plot twists were the most shocking and tantalising I have read for a while, and the characterisation and character development was spot on.

I liked the structuring of the book - the switch in perspectives allowed for more exploration within the characters.

Even if you don’t like this book, it is highly unlikely you would have known what was going to happen, or have read/will read anything quite like it.
