The Wives: A Memoir by Simone Gorrindo

3.0

This book felt so deeply personal to me, as the writer describes her early experiences as a military spouse. While many of our experiences were very different, the heart of her message is the same - the military wife community is truly a sisterhood. I can’t claim to relate to every experience she had, as the global war on terror looks completely different now than it did in 2011, and I don’t know a lot (anything? lol) about enlisted special ops service member culture. I also disagreed with some of her thoughts on army culture, and could see how it could ruffle feathers. It was also a bit long and I think it could’ve been about 50 pages shorter and still packed a punch. But I hope a lot of people read this book and see how much service members and their families go through. It’s truly a window into military life.
