I liked this book, in spite of its seemingly interminable speechifying, but it's not the best of the Deptford Trilogy (that would be Fifth Business, in my opinion). Part of this is that I find Paul absolutely unbearable, which is probably a me problem, but part of it is that the pacing is off, and the conclusion to the central mystery wholly unfulfilling.
