Break Me by Ella Jacobs

challenging dark emotional sad tense fast-paced

This is the seventh (?), yeah I think this is the seventh book by Jacobs that I’ve had the pleasure to read and review, and like with the rest, I get to experience a pitch black romance that truly strip your mind down to it’s core and then builds it back up. Jacobs is extremely skilled with her writing and use of words, that can make you feel for a person that’s essentially a horribly bad person. Dark romance get’s such a bad rep, especially now coming of the drama from one of youtubes biggest creators literally talking smack about the ”booktok people” who enjoy reading these types of books. There’s NOTHING wrong with enjoying a dark romance. Lots of SA and DV survivors use this type of literature to overcome their fears, to control the narrative and experience it in a safe place. It’s so important to talk about this, and something that unfortunately needs to be said over, and over, and over again. And there’s so much, especially in Jacobs books, emotional depth in the story. We truly get under the skin of both the victim and the aggressor. What makes them tick, why do they want the things they want, and how does that make them feel. It’s very raw and exposed. It’s a reading experience I cherish, and that don’t make me any less feminist or pro women’s rights. It’s simply an intricate, and raw experience, that I get to have from the safety of my home, and mind. Thank you Ella 🖤
