I went into Someone You Can Build a Nest In excited for a somewhat gory, somewhat cute monster ace romance-adjacent book. Instead, it was a slightly gory book about building relationships and recovering from family trauma.
I liked how SheSheshen interacted with the world - especially at the beginning. However, I struggled a lot with the pacing of the plot, the instant adoration Shesheshen had with Homily, and several of the family dynamics occasionally rubbed me the wrong way. I found Shesheshen a poor perspective (although likely intentionally) on family dynamics due to her being so isolated from family dynamics. There were interesting twists and amusing conversations that kept me from DNFing, but it was close on occasion.
There is a cute and monstrous companion that I did enjoy - but also I think just added length to the book. It was definitely worth finishing the book for.
