Thinner by Richard Bachman
2.0

With a happy family and successful career as a laywer, Bill Halleck's only problem is he's overweight. But that all changes when he accidentaly runs over a woman, killing her, and gets away scott-free. Suddenly, he starts losing weight, too much weight.

I had my eye on this for a while and I was a bit let down. The premise was interesting, the build up of Bill's frustration was good, and the ending I liked. However, Richie Ginelli's character seemed like a lazy move. He was a little too invested too soon. It felt as if the author didn't know how to push Bill so someone else had to do things for him.

Without Richie, he surely would have died sooner and with no other casualty which would have been a different kind of tragic. But at least it wouldn't feel suspiciously convenient.

All in all, the book wasn't terrible. It was just okay.
